For the first time Meghan Markle has opened up about her relationship with Prince Harry.

“We’re a couple. We’re in love”, she said of their romance. On the topic of keeping it private, she continued, “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us.

“It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Talking about being half of such a high profile relationship, the 36-year-old said it comes with it’s challenges and some days are more challenging than others.

She added: “Right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.”

“Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

The relationship became public knowledge in October 2016, however in the interview Markle revealed that they had actually been an item six months prior to this.

“We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.”

The US star was asked about how she handles the media coverage of her relationship but claimed she avoids all articles about her – either about her private life or her work.

“I haven’t even read press for Suits. The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise.”

At the beginning of the relationship, Prince Harry was forced to released a rare statement regarding his relationship, after Meghan was hounded by press at her home. It read:

“Meghan Markle has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” the statement from November 2016 read. “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her.”

The interview comes just a few days after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced they are expecting their third child.
