Selena Gomez’s Fans Shower Her In Support After Revealing She’s Had A Kidney Transplant

Selena Gomez has taken to Instagram to tell her fans that her best friend has given her the gift of life.

The 25-year-old posted a series of photographs explaining that she took a break from her music this summer as she was recovering from a kidney transplant – as part of her treatment for Lupus.

She wrote:

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.

The singer then went on to explain that her donor was her longtime best friend Francia Raisa who is known for starring in Bring It On and The Secret Life Of An American Teenager.

The photo series showed Selena holding hands with her friend in hospital beds and photos over her stomach post surgery.

She continued in the Instagram post:

There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made

Selena also said she looks forward to sharing her journey in the next few months, teasing that she will reveal more about her life saving operation.

Selena announced that she was battling with the autoimmune disease Lupus back in October 2015 and explained that she was undergoing chemotherapy in a bid to get better.

Following this the Hands To Myself singer took a break from her career in 2016 after suffering from “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” due to her lupus diagnosis.

Many of the 25-year-olds fans have since taken to Twitter to show their support.

One dubbed Selena a “warrior” and a “strong woman”. While another called her amazing and an inspiration.

Many have also contacted Francia Raisa to say thanks for her generosity.
