Beyonce Releases Mi Gente Remix In Support Of Hurricane Relief Efforts

Beyonce has added her vocals to bi-lingual hit Mi Gente and is donating 100% of the proceeds to hurricane relief efforts.

The singer’s remix of the song originally sang by J Balvin was released on the stars website on Thursday evening along with a series of colourful photographs of the star.

Along with a video, Beyonce wrote: “I am donating my proceeds from this song to hurricane and earthquake relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico and other affected Caribbean islands.”

Beyonce mentions the victims of the recent earthquake and hurricanes in the lyrics, singing: “Lift up your people/ From Texas to Puerto Rico/ Dem islands to Mexico.”

In just 30 minutes the video was watched over 100,000 times on Youtube.

Mi Gente, which translates to My People has already been a hit single around the world – it reached number 5 in the UK earlier this month.

Before the humanitarian crisis in Mexico and the Caribbean the song was calling for all people to be united.

In an interview in August J Balvin said: “Music has to be a tool to unite people, to get people together. It doesn’t matter the race, the language, the culture. So that’s what I’m saying when I sing that line.”

The Single Ladies singer isn’t the first pop star to reach out to the victims of of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria and the earthquake in Mexico.

Rapper Pitbull sent his private jet to Puerto Rico to transport Cancer patients to the mainland, while J.Lo has been praised for joining with her ex-husband Marc Anthony to create Somos Una Voz (We Are A Voice), “an alliance of artists working together to rush food, shelter, medicine, power and communications to those in need.”

A charity concert has also been organised to raise money for the victims of the natural disasters.

Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z will join Chris Brown, Cardi B, Daddy Yankee, DJ Khaled, Jennifer Lopez, A$AP Ferg, Fifth Harmony, Iggy Azalea and others at a benefit concert in Brooklyn on 17 October.

Fans are speculating whether Beyonce will make her first return to the stage since giving birth to twins Sir and Rumi.
