Richard, who had been dating the 79-year old fitness guru for the past eight years, also opened up to E! News about the shocking split.

It’s not a break up, it’s a shift in the direction of our lives. I hate to say the romantic relationship is over. We’re definitely extremely good friends. We do things together. We care about each other a great deal and as far as romantic relationships, that’s temporarily been put on the back burner because she, as you probably know, has rededicated herself to activism. … We definitely have a great deal of love for each other.

Aside from her award-winning acting career, Jane has focused a lot of her time on being an activist, dating back to the 1960s when she campaigned in support of the Civil Rights Movement and later against the Vietnam war in the ’70s.

Her time as a political activist garnered her a lot of backlash at the time, with her even gaining the nickname ‘Hanoi Jane’ after a photograph emerged of her sitting on an anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi.

It seems the Barbarella actress wants to focus more on her activist work which has put a strain on her romantic relationship with Perry.

She was recently at the forefront of the women’s march in Los Angeles on Saturday, January 21, alongside other female celebrities such as Miley Cyrus.

Fonda and Perry met each other in 2009, going on to buy a spectacular mansion together in 2012 for $7.3 million in the highly coveted Beverly Hills area.

They’ve recently put the star-studded home up for sale for a staggering $13 million.

It’s been clear over recent years just how happy the Klute actress was with the talented music mogul, revealing to The Sun in an interview that she’d ‘never had such a fulfilling sex life’ and that Richard had helped give her the intimacy she had craved for so long.
