‘We Need To Embrace Trump’ – Matthew McConaughey Speaks Out In Support Of President

While the majority of celebrities have been openly criticising, and even protesting against, the newly elected President Donald Trump, Matthew McConaughey has recently stepped out to defend the politician, saying ‘it’s time for us to embrace him’.

The Oscar winning actor opened up in a recent interview saying he believes everyone needs to start thinking more positively about the 45th U.S. President.

When talking to the BBC in London about the release of his new movie Gold, McConaughey was questioned on his view of America’s take on Trump.

Variety

The interviewer, Andrew Marr, declared, ‘every single American actor or arty type who comes over to London dumps on Trump’.

To which the 47-year old actor responded,

Well, they don’t have a choice now, he’s our president… And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years.

It was clear that the Hollywood heartthrob, who’s starred in Free State of Jones and Sing over the last year, was very serious about the U.S. population finally getting behind their new leader.

…even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done — which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he had said — no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be. Because he’s our president for the next four years. At least.

Many fans are surprised at Matthew’s seemingly supportive attitude towards Trump, particularly because his wife, Camila Alves, came over to America as an immigrant from Brazil.

Trump has made clear his opinions on immigrants, recently imposing a flight ban from seven mainly Muslim countries and even saying he will go through with his plan to build a wall between Mexico and the U.S.A. to ‘keep the immigrants out’.

McConaughey’s new film Gold sees him star as unlucky businessman Kenny Wells who sets about on a mission to discover gold hidden within the jungles of Indonesia.
