Katie Holmes Supports Tom Cruise After His Mother Sadly Dies Aged 80
Tom Cruise is receiving support from ex-wife Katie Holmes following the tragic death of his mother.
Cruise’s mom, Mary Lee South, reportedly passed away in her sleep last week after several health complications, at the age of 80.
The 54-year-old actor, best known for huge blockbuster hits such as Top Gun and Mission Impossible, is understandably devastated by the loss of his beloved mother.
Holmes and Cruise went through a very bitter and highly publicised breakup in 2012 after six years of marriage, but since hearing the news of Mary’s passing, Katie has put all differences aside and stepped in to be there for her ex-hubbie.
The 38-year-old actress knew Tom’s mother very well and was heartbroken to learn of her former mother-in-law’s death following the close relationship they had many years ago.
A source close to Cruise told HollywoodLife,
Katie Holmes has reached out to her ex Tom Cruise to offer her condolences after the passing of his mother. Tom has been rocked by the loss of his mother. They were very close and he will miss her dearly. He is staying strong and leaning on close friends and other family during this challenging time.
Mary was always extremely supportive of her son’s acting career, often being seen by his side at red carpet events.
He claims it was her passion for theatre and acting that inspired him when he was growing up – Mary herself never got into it as she thought entering the world of Hollywood was too ‘risqué’ when she was younger.
South’s memorial was held at her local Church of Scientology over the weekend, with many close family and friends in attendance, alongside her son Cruise and his sisters Lee Ann, Cass and Marian.
Tom has been a strong believer in the Church of Scientology since the early ’90s, when his then-wife Mimi Rogers introduced him to the religious movement.
