Chance The Rapper Turns Down $10 Million Record Deal After Grammys Success

Chance The Rapper may have had huge success at this year’s Grammy Awards, but the American artist is staying true to himself and refusing to accept the multi-million dollar record deals he has been offered since.

The 23-year old managed to scoop three big wins at the 2017 Grammys, taking home the awards for ‘Best Rap Performance’, ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Rap Album’.

Since totally owning this year’s Grammys, Chance has had record deals thrown at him by keen labels and producers, but the young artist isn’t bowing down to the temptation any time soon.

An insider close to the star spoke to Page Six about the rapper’s success,

Every label is still trying to get him. He’s making too much on his own… He was turning down $5 million advances before and now, it’s like $10 million.

Since he first rose on the scene, Chance has been pretty vocal about how much he disagrees with record label’s representing artists and taking some of the profit.

His record Mixtape, which bagged him an award at the Grammys, was released exclusively to Apple Music last year, and is now the first ever album to win a Grammy down to streaming sales only.

The source went on to say,

He may do something with Apple. But not with a label per se, he is going to remain independent.

No amount of money seems like it will change the Chicago-born rapper’s mind.

Talking to HOT 97 in 2015, Chance revealed,

I have complete control over my music. The same that I did when I was in high school: I make what I want to make, when I want to make it, with who I want to make it with. And, in the end, I still own everything that I create. And just the understanding of giving up that piece of the pie to anybody, whether they’re a huge label, or a indie label, or it’s just a distribution deal or it’s just a publishing deal, like giving up that piece is difficult for me.

The ‘No Problem’ star also has the support of fellow rap stars in the industry.

After his Grammy success, Drake text the talented rapper saying the win was ‘well-deserved’.
