Angelina Jolie Speaks Out About Family Life Following Split With Brad
Her new movie, First They Killed My Father, has led the actress to speak about her own experiences of loss and family life in a recent interview.
The upcoming Netflix original movie, which Jolie both directed and produced, reveals the story of the Cambodian genocide through the eyes of a child who experienced it first hand.
The moving film is based on the Khmer Rouge memoir written by Loung Ung who survived the regime in the 1970s.
Speaking with the BBC about her new project, Angelina opened up about her own personal experiences with Cambodia. Her first child, Maddox, was adopted from there.
I’ll always be very grateful to this country. I don’t think I could ever give back as much as this country has given me.
Angelina’s first visit was over 17 years ago. The actress instantly fell in love with the country and knew that motherhood was for her after meeting young children at a Cambodian school.
Yet the movie has clearly opened up a lot of old wounds for the Oscar winning actress.
Her son Maddox was reportedly involved in an incident with Brad on a plane when he was just 15-years old – an incident that led the world famous actor to be investigated by the FBI for child abuse, which he has since been cleared of.
While the details have never been clear as to what happened on the flight, Angelina spoke out about it for the first time during the BBC interview.
I don’t want to say much about that except it was a very difficult time. We are a family and we will always be a family and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.
Going on to speak about life following the split from Brad, Ange revealed,
My focus is my children, our children … and my focus is finding this way through. As I said, we are and forever will be a family. I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and close.
It’s clear that the 41-year old star is trying to do the best she can to cope with family life without Brad.
Right now, I’m going through a moment when just everybody’s in my room… Two dogs, two hamsters and two children at the moment.
It’s wonderful… But, usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who’s going to get [the] dog out, who’s going to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth.
First They Killed My Father made his worldwide debut over the weekend.
Angelina and Brad, who were together for over ten years before announcing their split, are still going through divorce proceedings.
