Oscar Winning Actor Casey Affleck Addresses Those Sexual Harassment Rumours

He’s the latest actor to scoop one of the most wanted awards at the Oscars, but while Casey Affleck has been enjoying his ‘Best Actor’ win at the Academy Awards on Sunday night, it hasn’t all been plain sailing for the award winning star.

The 41-year-old actor beat other big names in the acting world to the top, such as Denzel Washington and Ryan Gosling, for his performance in Manchester By The Sea.

But since his victory, previous allegations of sexual harassment have remerged and hung heavy over the star.

He has been accused in the past of sexually harassing two female colleagues on set of 2010 film I’m Still Here, with both women filing a lawsuit against him.

He’s now stepped out to address the rumours since it was clear a lot of people weren’t happy with his Oscar win.

The younger Affleck brother said in an interview with Boston Globe yesterday,

I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else. There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.

The incident was eventually settled out of court, although Ben Affleck‘s younger brother has always strongly denied the accusations.

After his win at the 89th Academy Awards, there was a huge backlash on Twitter with many not agreeing with the academy’s choice of winner.

Actor B.J. Novak tweeted saying, ‘Can we check Best Actor again?’ whilst watching the show live.

It was also evident on screen that not everyone was happy with Affleck’s victory. Brie Larson – who presented him with the award – noticeably refused to clap when he took to the podium to make his acceptance speech.

Despite the negativity surrounding his name leading up to the event, Casey kept his Oscars speech positive, saying:

I wish I had something bigger and more meaningful to say, but I’m just really proud to be a part of this community and I look out at all of you and I have this whole year. I’m just dumb founded that I’m included. And it means a lot to me.
