‘Beauty & The Beast’ Star Emma Watson Taking Legal Action Against Photo Hacker
Emma Watson is said to be filing a lawsuit against a hacker who has leaked private photographs of her online.
The talented actress, who is starring in the latest Disney live-action movie Beauty and the Beast – released tomorrow – is taking action against the undisclosed images.
Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Watson’s representatives have confirmed that the photos don’t show Emma nude.
Instead, Emma’s privacy was intruded when she was trying on various outfits at a clothes fitting, even though online speculation caused fans and the public alike to think she was the latest celebrity to fall victim to a nude photo leak.
The Harry Potter star’s publicist confirmed the incident, saying,
Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen. They are not nude photographs. Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further.
Emma’s team have not revealed who was behind the attack but are in the process of taking legal action against the suspect.
Twitter users have revealed that the pictures of Emma have turned up on the ‘dark web’, a term used to refer to an online network that allows users to share illegal information and files without their identity being revealed.
Reddit users have also claimed to have seen the pictures of Emma, along with “nudes” of fellow actress Amanda Seyfried.
The 26-year-old has been threatened by hackers in the past following her outward passion for feminism and leading global campaigns such as HeForShe.
More recently, Emma made headlines following her Vanity Fair photoshoot in which she exposed part of her breasts.
Trolls and critics were quick to brand Emma as a ‘hypocrite’ for showing off her body, as they didn’t feel this aligned well with her feminist beliefs.
The UN goodwills ambassador defended herself following the social media uproar, saying,
It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is… It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my t*ts have to do with it.
Her latest project, Beauty and the Beast, is set to be a box office hit and make over $200 million with its release.
