Mischa Barton Files Lawsuit After Ex-Lover Filmed Sex Tape Without Her Consent

Mischa Barton has spoken out in a recent news conference about the leaked sex tape of her that emerged online this week.

But it turns out that The O.C. actress was shockingly unaware of the footage being filmed, and is now taking legal action against the ex-partner who deceived her.

Her lawyers have taken out a court order to stop the nude videos and photos being sold online.

At one point, the tape was being offered to its highest bidder at a starting price of $500,000, with some of the industry’s leading pornographic sites expressing interest in the footage.

During the news conference yesterday, the 31-year old said she wants to raise awareness of the incident in order to help other women not have to go through the same ‘pain and humiliation’ that she has.

She expressed,

I came forward to fight this not only for myself but for all the women out there. I want to protect them from the pain and humiliation that I have had to go through. No woman should have to go through this.

The images and videos were taken by someone whom she was in a relationship with in the last year, but Mischa didn’t give consent, and was totally unaware of their betrayal.

My absolute worst fear was realised when I realised that someone I thought I loved and trusted was filming my most intimate and private moments without my consent, with hidden cameras.

She went on to talk about the devastation of realising the footage was being distributed all over the internet, saying,

Then I learned something even worse: that someone is trying to sell these videos and make them public.

It is a very hard thing to do but I am glad that I am finally standing up for myself.

Barton’s lawyer has stated that the secret filming and photographing is a form of domestic abuse.

The restraining order that’s now been put in place means the person responsible is forbidden from sharing or selling the photos and video clips.

She said,

Revenge porn is a very common crime… it’s scary, even for a celebrity, to stand up like this but it’s important for girls and women to stand up for our rights.

Mischa’s fight comes at the same time as British actress Emma Watson also filing a lawsuit against someone who hacked her phone and obtained private photos.
