Harry Styles Sends Twitter Into Meltdown Over New American Accent

The One Direction heartthrob is back, finally releasing his long awaited solo single.

‘Sign of the Times’ is now out worldwide, but aside from Harry’s angelic vocals and Bowie-esque style, people are freaking out over his strange new accent.

Styles joined BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw today to showcase his new song.

And while the world is going crazy for his return, Twitter couldn’t help but notice his weird American twang.

Fans who live in Harry’s hometown in Cheshire, UK, have been quick to slate the star.

With one fan saying,

Harry Styles’ new accent has made it clear that no one from where we’re from should ever move to LA.

Another user expressed,

Loving @Harry_Styles new single, not so much his half-northern half-American accent.

But of course, in the eyes of 1D fans Harry can do no wrong.

Some fans were quick to tweet about how much they love the 23-year old’s voice, saying,

Harry’s voice when he talks and his accent is just……. Wow   #HarryStyles  #SignOfTheTimes

Harry explains to host Grimmy that ‘Sign Of The Times’ is ‘the song [he’s] most proud of writing’.

He flew to Jamaica to work on the upcoming album, as well as collaborating with Kanye West’s former producer, Jeff Bhasker.

It seems he’s also got the approval from chart topper Ed Sheeran.

The former boyband star told Radio 1,

I played [Ed] a few songs after the album was finished. He didn’t say that he didn’t like any – but he did like one song that isn’t on the album. So I did have a bit of a minute of, like, ‘hmmm…’

Styles will perform his debut single for the first time on Saturday Night Live on April 15.

His appearance on the famous show will undoubtedly catapult his success in America.

Harry is the fourth member of the original One Direction band to release solo material.

Zayn takes the top spot for being the first to solo success, with Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson following suit.

Will he be able to take the number one slot on the charts as a solo singer?
