Dave Chappelle Is The Most Watched Stand-Up Comedian On Netflix

The Nutty Professor star is totally owning Netflix right now.

It’s been 12 years since we heard from the actor-turned-comedian, but he’s now making an extraordinary comeback.

Dave Chappelle’s new stand-up shows – Deep in the Heart of Texas and The Age of Spin – are the most watched comedy specials on the streaming site.

According to Business Insider, Netflix told shareholders that Chappelle’s latest work is topping the comedy genre.

Their statement revealed,

The triumphant return of a comedy legend in Dave Chappelle: Collection 1 was our most viewed comedy special ever. We are also finding this to be true in international markets as well.

The 43-year old stand-up star is yet to release the third special, but it’s sure to follow the success of the first two.

Despite touring in-between, Chappelle hasn’t released a comedy show since 2004’s For What It’s Worth.

He’s thought to have received a staggering $60 million for the three Netflix specials.

And his return has so far been met with the upmost support from fans.

The night before the two specials were released, ‘Chappelle’s Show’ began trending on Twitter.

With hilarious impressions of stars like Lil Wayne and Drake, his latest work is thought to be his best yet.

But it isn’t all plain sailing for the much-loved comedian.

His special, The Age of Spin, has received backlash for his remarks on Caitlyn Jenner and the LGBT community.

Activists say his work is ‘homophobic’ and ‘transphobic’.

While Netflix aren’t releasing exact viewing figures of Chappelle’s hilarious material, they ensure his work has reached a record number of hits from its 93 million subscribers.

He recently paid tribute to Chappelle’s Show star, Charlie Murphy, who passed away earlier this month.

Murphy lost his battle with leukaemia at the age of 57.

Chappelle therefore honoured his co-star on stage at John Mayer’s Ohio show, saying,

Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy. We love you… your comedy… your stories. And we love your spirit.
