Jonathan Demme Dies Aged 73: Twitter Pays Tribute To ‘Silence Of The Lambs’ Director
Famous director and Oscar winner Jonathan Demme has died at the age of 73.
Best known for his award-winning work on Silence of the Lambs, Demme will remain a legend to the film industry.
It’s believed he passed away on the morning of Wednesday, April 26 in New York.
According to IndieWire, the talented filmmaker died as a result of esophageal cancer and heart disease.
He first began suffering from heart disease over seven years ago.
Since the sad news broke, Twitter has consequently been full of tributes for the much-loved Philadelphia director.
Film site, Cinephilia & Beyond, are describing him as a ‘great man’.

Fellow director, Jay Baruchel, deems him as ‘one of the best’.

Actor Elijah Wood also expressed his condolences for the director saying he’s sad to hear of the news.

The highly regarded producer leaves behind his wife, Joanne Howard, and their three children.
Making his debut in 1971 with Angels Hard as They Come, Demme has gone on to direct tons of standout movies.
His career really kicked off in the ’80s when he worked on the likes of Melvin and Howard and Something Wild.
The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia made him one of the most critically-acclaimed directors of our time.
