Country Star Carrie Underwood Makes History At The CMT Music Awards
Carrie Underwood is officially the Queen of country music.
She’s the most awarded act ever at the CMT Music Awards, picking up her 17th trophy at this year’s event in Nashville.
Underwood, who rose to fame after winning season four of American Idol, took home two awards from last night’s ceremony.
The blonde beauty walked way with the gong for ‘Female Video of the Year’ for her song ‘Church Bells’.
And her and fellow country star, Keith Urban, scooped the prize for ‘Collaborative Video of the Year’ for their hit ‘The Fighter’.
She has upped her grand total of CMT awards to an impressive 17, the most an artist as ever won.
Taking to the stage to accept her female video win, the ‘Before He Cheats’ star gave a heartwarming acceptance speech.
Thank you God for so many incredible blessings. Me and my husband… there’s a lot going on in our lives. We are so thankful and so blessed.
But she didn’t leave the stage without shouting out to the Nashville Predators – her hubby Mike Fisher’s team – as they head to the NHL finals.
Working a crystal-covered skirt, the 34-year old was shining on the night.
And she even took to the stage with Keith Urban for a show-stopping performance of ‘The Fighter’.
Host of the night, Charles Esten, explained,
OK, everybody, this is special. We’ve got something truly incredible for you right now. You’ve all heard Keith and Carrie sing their smash hit ‘The Fighter,’ but I guarantee you’ve never heard it like this.
The country duo gave us a stripped back version of their chart-topping hit.
But two minutes into their breathtaking performance, the pair switched things up. An up-tempo dance beat kicked in and turned the stage into a country-filled rave.
Urban also won big on the night, taking home four awards including ‘Video of the Year’ for ‘Blue Ain’t Your Colour’.
The 49-year old also came out top for ‘Male Video of the Year’ and the ‘Social Superstar’ award.
He also took the time to thank his wife, Nicole Kidman, saying,
I want to say a massive thank you to my wife Nicole. You have no idea how much of what I do… she’s in every little piece of it.
