Cara Delevingne rose to fame as a successful model but later turned her attention to acting and singing, proving just how multi-talented she is. Signing up with Storm Model Management just after leaving school, the English model has gone on to be one of the best of her time, being name 'Model of the Year' at the British Fashion Awards in both 2012 and 2014. Her acting career has also been a huge success, with big movies such as 'Paper Towns', 'London Fields' and 'Suicide Squad'.


EARLY LIFE

Cara Jocelyn Delevingne was born in Hammersmith, London to Charles Hamar Delevingne, a property developer, and her mother Pandora Anne Delevingne. She has two elder sisters; model and socialite Poppy Delevingne and Chloe Delevingne. Her maternal grandfather, Sir Jocelyn Stevens, was the publishing executive and English Heritage chairperson, whilst her godfather was the Condé Nast executive Nicholas Coleridge, and her godmother actress Joan Collins. She spent most of her childhood life in Belgravia estate, one of the wealthiest districts in the world.

She suffered with dyspraxia as a child; having issues with coordinating her thoughts and movements, so she consequently found school challenging. Writing was always difficult and exams proved to be a nightmare for her. At fifteen, she went through a ‘mental breakdown’, suffering with depression and anxiety about her school work and hormonal changes her body was experiencing making school very challenging. Her biggest dream at the time was to grow up and become a dentist. She attended Francis Holland School for Girls in Central London, until she was 16-years old, before moving to Bedales School in Hampshire, London. She dropped out of Bedales School after one year where she was studying music and drama. She moved on to modeling and followed the path of her eldest sister Poppy. Pandora, Delevingne’s mother, battled heroin addiction and was prescribed drugs throughout her daughter’s childhood. As a child, Delevingne couldn’t understand why her mom was so often sick or away from home. At around the age of 16, she finally put the pieces together and depression hit her very hard.

CAREER

Cara Delevingne has a rich and diverse career path that has made her not only famous but also an inspiration to many young ladies. She began as a model, with her later going into designing, music and subsequently becoming an actress. She is now a global celebrity with several nominations and awards accredited to her.

Modeling:

Cara first appeared in Vogue magazine at the age of 10, which was shot by Bruce Weber.  She had previously featured in some ads during her childhood for the likes of Cadbury, H&M, Zara, and Burberry. Delevingne propelled to fame after being scouted by Burberry’s Christopher Bailey in 2012 while working part-time in the office of a fashion website. Her debut into the modeling industry was in 2009 when Cara signed a contract with Storm Model Management Company. Her first fashion week was New York Fashion Week where she walked in nine shows for fashion houses including Jason Wu, Rag & Bone, Thakoon, Donna Karan, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. The week after, London Fashion Week took place. Delevingne exclusively participated in the Burberry Prorsum Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2012 show, on February 20 2012  She later won the ‘Model of the Year’ at the British Fashion Awards in the same year. Delevingne worked with high profile designers and fashion house like Jason Wu, Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, and Marches. During her first few years as a model, she has walked in huge fashion week shows in London in 2011, Paris, Milan, New York in 2012 and London again in 2013. She was on the catwalk five times during London Fashion Week, walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012  and 2013 and won Model of the Year 2012 and 2014 respectively. Delevingne graced the covers of Vogue UK thrice, including a supplement cover in 2011, as well as Vogue (Korea, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Portugal), LOVE, i-D, Russh, Jalouse, and Style.com Spring 2013 issue. She was also the cover girl of W‘s September 2013 issue. In 2015, Cara was named the new Brand Ambassador of Swiss watch brand Tag Heuer. Later in June, she broke out of Storm Model Management Company and was removed from the company’s website. Currently, she is the face of DKNT, Shanel Resort, and Burberry Beauty.

Acting:

From modeling, Delevingne shifted her focus into acting. “Modeling is a great job, and I appreciate everything it has brought me, but it’s not my passion,” she told the Daily Mail in 2014. “As far back as I can remember I’ve wanted to act. We were going through all these old home videos recently, which I’d never seen before, and there were shots of me performing on a mocked-up stage.”

Cara Delevingne appeared on the big screen in 2012, having a role in the main cast for drama Anna Karenina directed by Joe Wright. In August, she voiced in the video game Grand Theft Auto V which after its release, became the fastest-selling entertainment product at that time. Her TV debut was in June 2014 during the final episode of Playhouse Presents, a series of self-contained TV plays by British broadcaster Sky Arts. She later featured in the annual 90-minute comedy TV event called The Feeling Nuts Comedy Night aimed at educating people about testicular cancer.

Delevingne went on to play the part of Melanie in the British psychological thriller film The Face of an Angel, accompanied by Daniel Brühl and Kate Beckinsale. The film received mixed responses by many but Delevingne herself was applauded for her acting. The Metro commented that “in her [Delevingne’s] first major film role, she proves she can act with a sweet and playful on-screen presence. She brings out a sense of vitality that is currently missing from the rest of the film.” In 2015, she famously appeared in an ad for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, in which she ended a regular guy’s game as the Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’ played in the background.

Cara went into music videos and featured in ASAP Fergie’s ‘Dope Walk’ and later in Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ in 2015. Her breakthrough as an actress came in 2015’s Paper Towns. Her latest project was done in 2016 where she played ‘Enchantress’ in action film Suicide Squad. Delevingne has two films lined up for 2017, Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Justin Chadwick’s Tulip Fever

Music:

Cara Delevingne plays drums and a guitar as well as being a music writer and singer. Between 2011 and 2012, she wrote and recorded two albums with artist manager Simon Fuller. She got a recording deal, but declined it because they wanted her name to change. In 2013, she recorded an acoustic duet cover version of ‘Sonnentanz’ with British soul and jazz singer-songwriter Will Heard. In 2014, she sang with Pharell William in ‘CC The World’. They performed the song at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City in March 2015.

Design:

Cara ventured into designing alongside her other talents, and has so far done two fashion collections for DKNY in 2014, featuring a variety of sporty street style items ranging from beanie hats to leather jackets. She developed four designs for Mulberry in 2015 which included handbags and rucksacks. Her latest collection includes passport holders, phone covers and purses.

In the entertainment limelight, Cara is a supermodel. How much she has achieved in such a short time has made her renowned in the modeling industry. Cara Delevingne is among the most recognizable supermodels, known for her severe dark eyebrows that gorgeously contrast against her blonde hair. In 2013, Delevingne was the most Googled fashion figure and the most re-blogged model on Tumblr. In March 2014, she featured in The Sunday Times Magazine ‘100 Makers of the 21st Century’ list of influential British people. She has a mass following on her Instagram page with over 3 million followers. Here she earns a lot of money from her posts. According to CR Fashion Book, Delevingne’s Instagram posts valued between $125,000 and $300,000.

She’s known to be a keen animal lover and has featured in many ads and campaigns, with her once posing nude for an anti-poaching campaign. The hunting and killing of endangered animals is an issue that’s dear to Delevingne’s heart. In 2015, she denounced Walter Palmer, the man who shot Cecil the lion, as a ‘poor excuse of a human being.’ As an animal lover, she sold her most expensive watch and gave the money to support anti-poaching organizations.

Showing off her natural beauty, the songstress keeps her skin free of make-up and scraps her raven locks back into an effortless top knot. She has developed an obsession with tattoos and currently has over 20 of them. Cara discreetly revealed a tattoo of four white dots inked on her left ribcage. According to her, the dots tattoo is a tribute to her loved ones, and each dot represents a member of her family including her parents, Pandora and Charles, and her sisters, Poppy and Chloe. On February 28 2015, she shared a photo on her Instagram page showing off a new “AC” tattoo on her finger. This tattoo reportedly stands for the initials of St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, whom the model was dating at the time. In 2015, she was rumored to have dropped a white powdered bag from her handbag. She was at one time on the wrong side of the law for allegedly violating her dog’s rights. She had tied a barking controller band around her dog which would go off whenever the dog attempted to bark.

PERSONAL LIFE

Cara openly talks about being bisexual. She admits she always felt confused by her sexuality as a child, and the possibility of her being a bisexual frightened her. It wasn’t until the age of 20 when she fell in love with a girl that she came to accept her status. She has however dated many famous men, from producer Jay Electronica, singer Harry Styles, Gary Beadle and songwriter Jake Bugg. She also dated actress Mitchell Rodriguez. In 2015, she began a relationship with singer-songwriter Annie Clarke (St Vincent), and she says their relationship made her understand the meaning of love. Her relationship was always kept private until when one day they both went to Instagram to affirm their mutual affection. The pair split in September 2016.

Things haven’t been simple for the model-turned-actress especially considering that she’s dealt with depression for a lot of her life. She still lives in her parent’s house though she has plans of buying her own. She openly declared during an interview in New York that she had tasted all powder drugs as a star, showing off a darker side to her celebrity lifestyle.
