The eldest child in the world’s biggest reality star family, Kourtney Kardashian is known worldwide as an American personality, socialite, and businesswoman. Since 2007, she and her family have appeared in numerous reality shows, re-defining the television landscape one social media hit at a time.

Kourtney Kardashian is the oldest child of parents Kris Kardashian (later Jenner) and father Robert Kardashian, a renown attorney in Los Angeles. Through her parents, Kourtney has two younger sisters, Kimberly and Khloé, and brother Robert, Jr. Her parents divorced in 1991 and mother Kris married Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner (later Caitlyn Jenner). Through the couple’s union, Kourtney gained step-siblings Burt, Brandon, Brody, and Casey. Later, Kris and Bruce Jenner gave birth to Kourtney’s half-sisters Kendall and Kylie.

Kourtney spent her formative years in school at Marymount High School in Los Angeles, an all-girls Roman Catholic institution. After graduation, she began college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas for two years. She then transferred to the University of Arizona in Tucson where she received a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts with a minor in Spanish. Classmates included the daughter of Lionel Richie, Nicole Richie, and Luke Walton. In 1994, her father brought the family to prominence as one of the lawyer’s defending O.J. Simpson as part of his ‘Dream Team’ legal defense for murder charges.

Kourtney Kardashian first gained recognition in Hollywood on one of the first reality shows to air, 2005’s Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive, where she participated in a competition to earn money for charity. But it was a sex tape in 2007 made by her younger sister Kim Kardashian and boyfriend at the time (and sister to pop singer Brandy) Ray J that largely brought her and the entire family into prominence. Later that very same year, Keeping Up with the Kardashians debuted, featuring the entire family, including Bruce Jenner and half-sisters Kylie and Kendall. Premiering on the E! network, the show was deemed a success for the network, and resulted in several spin-off shows featuring the family, including Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, Khloé & Lamar, and Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

The Kardashian sisters along with their mother, who was also their manager, opened clothing stores for kids in Los Angeles and New York City: Smooch in LA and Crib Rock Couture in NYC. Together with sisters Kim and Khloé, they co-own and manage DASH boutiques in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and a pop-up store in the Hamptons. In 2010, Kourtney released a line with label Bebe and later that year debuted a new line called K-Dash that debuted on the QVC network. A self-tanner was released by Kourtney and her sisters called Kardashian Glamour Tan in 2010 and the three released a book together entitled Kardashian Konfidential that debuted on best-seller lists.

In spring 2011, Kourtney made her official acting debut on the daytime soap opera One Life to Live as attorney Kassandra Kavanaugh. The following year, the three Kardashian sisters were named as spokeswomen for Quick Trim, a diet supplement company. She is also a spokeswoman for PerfectSkin, a skincare line from Perfect Science Labs that was developed by Dr. Ron DiSalvo. The three Kardashian sisters also collaborated with the company Virgins, Saints, and Angels to release a 20-piece, Armenian inspired collection of jewelry for the label.

As the biggest stars in the reality television industry worldwide, everywhere you look, you are likely to see a story featuring someone from the large family, easily making them one of the most famous families in the history of the small screen. The Kardashian family is known for broadcasting everything about their lives, no matter how personal, from plastic surgery to infighting, with most incidences being caught on camera and featured in one of their reality shows.

There have been several scandals that have rocked the family one way or another. In the spring of 2012, the three Kardashian sisters were sued for $5 million in a lawsuit against QuickTrim. In the suit, all three were accused of deceptive marketing. The plaintiffs hailed from several states and caused weeks of bad press for the family.

Kourtney’s on-again/off-again relationship with the father of her children has been a constant source of scandal for the family. In 2014, boyfriend Scott Disick was hospitalized for alcohol poisoning and then once released was photographed by the paparazzi in Monte Carlo with an ex-girlfriend. Upon hearing the news, Kourtney broke off the relationship. The following year, Disick entered a rehab clinic for the second time that year, and the fourth time overall in his life. Fans of the clan are well aware of Disick’s drinking and partying ways. Currently, the two are on friendly terms and co-parenting their three children together.

The entire family received significant publicity when father Robert Kardashian, a life-long friend of O.J. Simpson, defended him in the murder trial referred to as the ‘trial of the century’. In 2003, Robert Kardashian died from esophageal cancer.

In 2006, Kourtney met and began dating Scott Disick, whom she met at a house party thrown by friend and mogul Joe Francis. Their first child together, a son named Mason Dash Disick, was born on December 15, 2009, which was filmed and aired during the fourth season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. During the first episode of her reality show Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Disick offered to propose but she opined that the two should not wed. Their second child, a daughter name Penelope Scotland Disick, was born and in June of 2014, the couple announced they were expecting their third child. Reign Ashton Disick was born on Mason’s fifth birthday on December 14, 2014. They announced their separation on July 6, 2015 via E! News.
